This is the topic that got the Pay Gap Comedy series started! A few years ago, we noticed that a major comedy line up was coming through town on a nationwide tour. As we checked out more information on it, one very specific thing jumped out. Or rather, it was the absence of something.

Women. There was not one woman in this big comedy show.

Sure, there are rumors that “women aren’t funny”, or that “female comedians don’t sell tickets”, or that “women just aren’t interested in comedy.”

We say F*CK THAT.

And that’s why we launched our Pay Gap Comedy and Music shows. Ranging from intimate pop-ups in your favorite pub or coffee shop, to large theatre shows and outdoor festivals, at Rock What You Got™, we’ve made it our mission to elevate and amplify the voices of women and female identifying people by placing them front and center on stage! These amazing events are also a way to draw attention to the very real problem of the gendered pay gap in America.

Did you know that on average women make 82 cents to every dollar a man makes? It’s true, and no matter what our social media trolls say, the numbers don’t lie.

Making matters far worse, the gendered pay gap increases when we talk about women of color, with some groups making only about HALF of what men do. This injustice needs to stop, and that’s what we’re talking about in this episode.

From everyday workplaces to the entertainment industry and professional sports, women’s work is de-valued at alarming rates, and while there have been some positive movements, there’s still so much more to be done.
